About CARA

CARA (Charity No. 1135610) is an independent international charity, which main activities include:

1. HIV/AIDS: prevention, care and support for those affected by HIV/AIDS by doing:

* Outreach: We distribute free condoms and sexual health information about HIV/AIDS and other STIs;

* Drop-in service: Providing advice on sexual health issues and signposting to the relevant public services;

* Campaigns: Working with the communities to reduce the incidence of HIV, STIs and teenage pregnancy;

* Support Group/Discussion: prevention, care and support for those affected by HIV/AIDS and their family;

* Workshop/Seminars: Empowering poor people, especially women, to be in control of their sexual health;

2. Health: striving to reduce childhood death and illness;

3. Education: providing quality basic education for all, especially girls;

4. Water and sanitation: provision of clean water and adequate sanitation;

Funds raised may be used to ...

*10 UK Pound Sterlings will pay daily expenses of one volunteers, who will in turn deliver 7 hours of advice to a client; *15 UK Pound Sterlings will pay for an hour of generalist advice; *20 UK Pound Sterlings could buy 500 condoms or provide income generating activities such as bakeries for women; *30 UK Pound Sterlings will pay for an outreach worker to visit an elderly client at home; *50 UK Pound Sterlings per month could help to train someone to deliver prevention, care and support services or will help us provide clean water in Africa; *60 UK Pound Sterlings will pay for one hour of specialist advice; *90 UK Pound Sterlings will fund the direct costs for solving a housing problem; *100 UK Pound Sterlings per month will provide nutrition and literacy training for a community for a year or could help fund voluntary counselling and testing for twenty people; *150 UK Pound Sterlings per month will help families in Africa; *170 UK Pound Sterlings per month will enable us to advise throughout an average employment dispute; *190 UK Pound Sterlings per month helps us to support a family in debt to avoid having their home repossessed; *500 UK Pound Sterlings per month could help fund the production of educational materials for people who are most at risk either of contracting HIV or of passing on the virus or could pay for a new leaflet to be distributed to recruit new volunteers; *500 UK Pound Sterlings pays for a PC for a volunteer to use for advice work; *1,000 UK Pound Sterlings could help provide essential food support for ten people taking antiretroviral (ARV) treatment over the course of one year; *1,500 UK Pound Sterlings pays for the training of new CARA volunteer adviser;
