About CAFOD

CAFOD is the official international development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD works with local partner organisations in over 40 countries. It funds development programmes which help to lift people out of poverty and improve standards of living. These include education and skills training, peace building, healthcare, the provision of safe water, agriculture and small businesses.

In emergency situations such as natural disasters and violent conflict, CAFOD also provides immediate relief and stays on to help people rebuild their lives.

To tackle the underlying causes of poverty, CAFOD and its partners put pressure on governments and institutions to change unjust policies. CAFOD raises awareness of poverty issues in schools and parishes and encourages people in the UK to campaign as well as to fundraise.

Funds raised may be used to ...

In West Africa, a region emerging from a devastating food crisis, 230,000 children die every year because of malnutrition. In Niger, where Hassana lives, more than a million children under five are diagnosed with malnutrition every year. We can stop this. £25 can help us get a month?s supply of Plumpy?nut to a child suffering from malnutrition. £40 can help us equip breastfeeding mothers with the skills necessary prevent the spread of diseases. £50 can help us deliver food and medical care to malnourished children and their families. £70 can help us buy the essential follow-on medicine for children discharged from the feeding centre. £100 can help us pay the monthly salary of a nurse at a nutrition centre.
