About CAFOD

CAFOD is the official international development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD works with local partner organisations in over 40 countries. It funds development programmes which help to lift people out of poverty and improve standards of living. These include education and skills training, peace building, healthcare, the provision of safe water, agriculture and small businesses.

In emergency situations such as natural disasters and violent conflict, CAFOD also provides immediate relief and stays on to help people rebuild their lives.

To tackle the underlying causes of poverty, CAFOD and its partners put pressure on governments and institutions to change unjust policies. CAFOD raises awareness of poverty issues in schools and parishes and encourages people in the UK to campaign as well as to fundraise.

A gift of £65 could help provide bricks and mortar to build homes for families in desperate need. After years of living in camps and temporary shelters, Surenthiran has found peace in her new home, provided by CAFOD. ?We are happy now,? she says with a smile. A gift of £25 could help provide fuel-efficient stoves so parents can prepare decent family meals. Before Surenthiran moved into a CAFOD-funded home with a fuel-efficient stove, she spent hours gathering firewood. Now she can cook using far less fuel, and has more time to spend with the family. A gift of £35 could help build tanks to collect rainwater, so that families can rely on safe, clean water ? all year round. Surenthiran lives in a village without clean water and used to rely on open streams for her family?s needs. Thanks to the CAFOD-funded rainwater tank, her family now drinks disease-free water. A gift of £45 could help provide hygienic toilets to improve the health of families. Surenthiran used to walk up to 250 metres to go to the toilet in the jungle. It was a dangerous journey. Her new home has a private toilet which means her health and security have improved.
