In September 2012 the Neros Foundation will start work on building a medical clinic in a remote rural region of the island of Flores, Indonesia. The clinic will bring basic medical services within easy reach of 5 villages and hundreds of people. Currently villagers struggle to access even basic medical care because they have to travel for many hours by truck or motor bike and can't afford the cost of transport, let alone the cost of treatment.

We have raised enough money to build the clinic using old, unsustainable methods but we have an opportunity to introduce a cleaner, greener and stronger building technique - that's why we need your help!

With the help of Designscape Architects we have identified a hand operated block press technology for making building blocks on site out of local soil with a minimal cement content. This could reduce the dependency on expensive materials and transport costs getting them to site, and introduce a skill and technology which could give ... more
