A BIG run for tiny wee people!

Event date: 29th September 2013

David Currie is raising money for So Precious

My story

With my two fiends Grant Cheyne and David Kilgour, I'm running the Loch Ness Marathon, and my Fiance Alex is running the 10km. We're running for Neonatal Babies.

So Precious is a charity that aims to raise funds for the Neonatal and Maternity units at Forth Valley Hospital in central Scotland. I myself was a "neonate" having been born 7 weeks prematurely, "denim blue" in colour, and weighing in at just over 5lbs. I spent the next few weeks living in a incubator in intensive care feeding from a tube up my nose (but look at me now!...).

However many years later, my Godson Lliam (who's Dad David Kilgour is also running) was also rushed into the neonatal unit at Forth Valley. Lliam had suffered several seizures shortly after birth and had hyponatremia (low blood salt levels) and hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels), both of which are critical for the major organs to function properly. Lliam was also treated for suspected meningitis and was a very sick baby but thanks to the quick reactions of the Maternity Ward staff, and the life saving skills of the Neonatal Unit, Lliam is now a happy wee boy and enjoying life to the full.

It's the hard work and dedication of these units and our belief that they should have the best possible equipment available, that we've decided to run...a marathon...and Alex a 10k!

I don't even like running, in fact, I dislike it...a lot! So donate generously, and I'll give you the satisfaction that I'm out doing something I really don't want to be doing, for 26.2 miles, next to a big green loch dwelling monster.
