Britain's Most Inspiring Fundraiser Nominee
Finalist - Molli Turner
Nominated by: Catherine Williams, who works for St Ann's Hospice
Charity:St Ann's Hospice
Reason for nomination:
"Whilst living with cancer, Molli has dedicated herself to raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to help as many people as possible, whilst also acting as an outstanding ambassador for the Hospice and providing comfort to patients and families. St Ann's is lucky to have benefited from Molli's support."
Actions:
Molli Turner is 91 years old and has supported St Ann's Hospice for 40 years, during which time she has lived through breast and throat cancer. Molli has staggeringly raised over £200,000 for the Hospice and was awarded an MBE in 2001 for her efforts.
Molli used to hold a Guinness Book of Records for the oldest 175 foot abseil which she did at the age of 84 in fancy dress from the ICL tower in Gorton, Manchester. Living with cancer has not deflected Molli's enthusiasm, cheerfulness, common sense and ability to give hope to people. She has worked in many of our Hospice shops and currently works in the Hospice coffee shop whilst also taking time to spend quiet and supportive time with patients and relatives. She has also given many talks about St Ann's to local community groups.
Molli brings her own unique 'entrepreneur' style of fundraising to all of her activities sourcing the most sought after items to sell to Hospice staff, patient relatives, supporters and volunteers. Molli has never been put off by the weather, coming out on all occasions to fundraise including torrential rain and still raising £500. Molli holds bring and buy sales from her own home, has run coffee mornings, assisted with street collections and at football grounds. She is particularly fond of a picture of herself sitting in a bath of custard during our 2001 Hospice Go Yellow fundraising day.
