Reason for nomination:

"He is disabled physically and mentally, and he goes out in all weathers to do voluntary work, he puts others before himself."

Actions:

Brian is founder and Chairman of the Essex Community Help and Support Group of the Meningitis Trust, he started up this group in December 1991 after contracting bacterial meningitis twice that year which left him with both physical and mental disabilities and being medically retired from his job as a manager in a supermarket.

Brian is not paid and works voluntary, all across Essex helping anyone who has been affected by meningitis, either losing a loved one or having meningitis themselves.

Brian, up to the beginning of February 2008 has paid into the Meningitis Trust bank over £438,300.00 by collecting donations from the public outside supermarkets in all weathers rain shine or snow, he has organised dances, raffles, fun runs and sponsored events and has taken part himself.

He also goes out to give talks about meningitis to schools, W.I meetings, moose & buffalo groups, scouts, in fact anywhere.

He sells badges and other things for the Trust and he has made the Essex group the most successful group for the Trust. He also raises money for DIAL, the disability information advice line in Basildon by also collecting donations and selling badges ect and helping disabled persons.
