Britain's Most Inspiring Fundraiser Nominee
Finalist - Barbara Doherty
Nominated by: Carole Eagles, volunteers for Barbara
Charity:Isabel Hospice
Reason for nomination:
"Barbara gives her time generously and engages everyone she speaks to. She is prepared to roll her sleeves up and get dirty but equally at home addressing an audience of corporate high flyers. Her background in nursing and counselling makes her the ideal person to turn to."
Actions:
Working for 25 years to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Isabel Hospice she has raised over £750,000.
Barbara has organised numerous events including lunches with guest speakers, race nights, dinners, and gala balls! Each event has a raffle and auction with fabulous prizes she has sourced - Barbara never misses an opportunity to fundraise.
Events are well attended and thoroughly enjoyed - important as Barbara is mindful that her guests enjoy themselves as well as benefit a wonderful cause (that way they tend to become life long supporters).
Barbara also helps in her capacity as Life Vice President offering valuable advice and guidance. She addresses groups and has built up a wealth of contacts who donate their services to save charity expenditure.
Barbara is inspirational, a truly lovely lady and works tirelessly, you can't say no to her.
Isabel Hospice is a wonderful organisation. They offer care to patients living with cancer. It is a haven. They also have Hospice @ Home nurses for those patients wishing to spend their final days in their own surroundings.
My husband was diagnosed with a brain tumour and died just seven months later. He was 33. Isabel Hospice helped us at every step allowing Andy his dignity, even opening up on Christmas 2000 as we were the only patients not able to go home. We stayed 10 days and I was able to be Andy's wife not his carer - something I will always be grateful for.
